WHY PIANO LESSONS?

There are many reasons people sign up for piano lessons. The piano is a versatile instrument which develops a foundation that can be later applied to all instruments. Learning piano promotes coordination and it fully engages the brain while using independently both hands and the feet. Pianists learn to read music in both treble and bass clef simultaneously. They develop ear training, note reading, rhythm, and musicianship. There is also a vast body of research outlying the countless benefits students receive when studying music that validate many of the reasons people decide to pursue piano instruction. Studies reveal that long-term piano study can lead to improvements in math, reading, language and reasoning skills. It can also lead to enhancements in creative and problem-solving skills, concentration, discipline, and memorization. Throughout the lessons, students develop the ability to work one-on-one with an instructor, while receiving instruction, managing constructive criticism, and developing the ability to self-assess.  

Studies have revealed that long-term piano study can lead to an increase in self-esteem as students persevere through short-term and long-term challenges to achieve their goals. Music is a natural form of expression and many students have stated that playing the piano is one way that they are able to express themselves and their emotions. Additionally, playing the piano is an enriching and therapeutic activity that can lead to a life-long appreciation of music and joy. 

The piano provides a wonderful opportunity for students to develop tactile/kinesthetic skills and hand-eye coordination. A piano student learns to read multiple lines of music while simultaneously engaging many parts of the body including the ears, eyes, hands, fingers, and feet. Developing the ability to express oneself through the use of the whole body is tremendously beneficial.
