My teaching philosophy on piano lessons

Picture taken during a piano recital. Students shared what they learned during their piano lessons.

Love of music and music-making:

One of the primary goals in my teaching philosophy is to promote the love for music and music-making. Every student that enjoys the aesthetics of music will develop the creativity, the imagination, the sensitivity and the taste for beauty.

Each student is unique and special:

I teach piano lessons to students all ages and levels, regardless of experience or ability. I give them all the opportunity to achieve their highest possible level.  I use a psychological approach adjusting my teaching methods and strategies based on my student needs and interests, being focused to find the most suitable path to accomplish his or her goals.

What is the best age to start piano?

Individual piano lessons can start in preschool, typically age 5, and continue throughout ones life including adulthood. There is never too late to start or resume taking lessons.

Encouraging Attitude:

One of my teaching goals is to instill courage and confidence. I make corrections in an instructive and positive way.

Piano students should enjoy piano lessons:

Each child deserves to be taught and can be taught with adjustable methods. No matter what the student’s goals are, I try to balance the knowledge with kindness and humor.

What are my teaching standards?

All students are expected to achieve a specific level of musical and technical advancement each year. Students will learn music fundamentals and develop their piano skills such as: music notation, rhythm, melody, harmony, sight-reading, improvisation, composition and technical skills. Each student will have the opportunity to achieve his/her goals to performance, critical listening, technique, music history, music theory, ear training, and memorization.

Empathy and Concern

I want to be a teacher, who teach them in a professional way, but also a friend, who cares about my students’ needs. I believe that a supportive learning environment promotes a positive attitude toward music.

Patience:

I carefully prepare for my lessons, providing the information gradually, with an adequate pacing. The lessons give students time to think about difficult tasks and master them. I recognize and appreciate their progress.
